Workshop: Art with user-generated content

In this hands-on workshop, we learned possibilities and limitations of using user-generated content (UGC) for participants' own art projects. In a laboratory setting, this workshop provided an introduction to the artistic use of digital media and an opportunity for participants to experiment with new media. We have worked with open source software and explored artistic strategies in the field of processual and networked art.

Part of the workshop at the Arab Media Lab, we created “Marrakech Unfiltered”, a net-based installation. On TikTok we researched what Marrakech really looks like and what it thinks. What are the people of Marrakech really saying? What ideas and concerns they're addressing and projecting? We formulated questions, which appear in large letters in front of the TikTok posts like: Does social media help to keep our traditions? Ramadan: eat or dance? How social media change our behavior in choosing travel destination?
