de____cloud
In this year’s festival, we explore the Symbiocene—a visionary era where humanity exists in seamless harmony with nature, recognizing the interconnectedness of all life forms. On the other hand we examine Hyperreality, a concept originated by Jean Baudrillard, which describes a world where the lines between reality and simulation blur, and simulations not only mimic but become more significant than reality itself.
With the theme de____cloud, we explore the blurred boundaries between the real and the imagined, the tangible and the intangible, the past and the potential futures. Through the lenses of two contending worldviews – the idyllic prospect of the Symbiocene and the tense actualization of Hyperreality – we explore the milieu of questions that resonate beclouded in between notions.
Is a present and future infused with technological power, able to embrace and reimagine a symbiotic existence between human and other living systems? Have the imitations transcended to blur the lines between aware and artificial life; if so, is a symbiocenic version of our world truly possible? What is really to live and think Hyperrealistically? How have systems of knowledge, society, politics and culture shifted in this reality of hyper-everything; importantly, are these shifts life-affirming in the long run? Are we struggling in a closed loop, or can we de-cloud our perceptions and practises while reaching into our projected futures?

Speculative Evolution
Mobile App as Interface for Net-Based InstallationsDue to the threatening predictions of species extinction and global warming, scientists and farmers are increasingly relying on technologies such as genetic engineering, synthetic biology and machine learning. Speculative Evolution imagines a speculative ecosystem 30 years from now, where artificial intelligence and biotechnologies work together to create and optimize species to withstand the increasingly more …
