The Pyramid Project

Site specific installation

Next to the Banaswadi railway station in Bangaluru, in the Janakiraman district, Lingarajapuram, we have built a pyramid for meditation and resting with the help of local people. The pyramid is made of recycled material and completely covered by shiny plastic waste, murmuring in the wind and providing shadow.

Fascination
I am fascinated by the people who live in the Janakiraman layout behind Banaswadi railway station. This place is full of energy: the smell of burning wood, cow dung, cold mornings, hot chai, smiling faces, poorly dressed beggars and beggars in suits, colourful saris. What a place.

Inspiration
Inspired by the colourful bags – such as bags of sweets, shampoo, salt, crisps and coffee – that hang neatly lined up in the small shops. The floor is also covered with these bags. By collecting the empty bags, we help to clean the floor. By reusing them, we recycle them. By sewing them to the pyramid, we give it a new cover and transform it into something else at the same time. The place where the pyramid now stands used to be covered with these bags. Today they are still there, but in a new form that reflects the original state in a different way.

A pyramid is a very static, rigid and silent object. The suspended bags move, are alive and rustle in the wind. In this way, opposing characteristics meet, intertwine and something new appears.

-Meditation and yoga
It is believed that meditating in a pyramid gives us the most cosmic energy. At the same time, it is a good place to relax, find shade and tell stories.
